Eurovision World Cup: Russia vs Cyprus

For the duration of the actual World Cup, some of the best Eurovision artists old and new will be battling it out in a series of matches that mirror the World Cup itself. By the end, we will know the first winner of our Eurovision World Cup!

On each competition day of the World Cup, all of the matches for that day will be posted here on Eurovision Union. For a full 24 hours, a poll will be open for each match and it will be up to you to pick which of the representative songs will win the match.

We have reached Day 12 of the Eurovision World Cup, and although we are still in the Group stage, we have reached the final ‘round’ of the Group stage with the remaining matches acting as the deciding matches for many of the nations competing! Today we are starting off with the matches from Group A and Group B – a total of four matches! Here is Russia vs Cyprus!

Today’s competitors:

Russia is represented by their first and only winner of Eurovision thus far, and that’s Dima Bilan. He had participated at Eurovision two years prior to his Eurovision win, where he placed 2nd with the song Never Let You Go, but the Russian Eurovision World Cup representative song is his winning entry from 2008, Believe. If you haven’t already, watch the performance below:

Cyprus first made their debut back in 1981, but it took until 2018 to achieve their best Eurovision result. The nation has finished in the Top 10 numerous times, but it was fan favourite Eleni Foureira who brought Cyprus closer to their first Eurovision win with the song Fuego. The song finished in 2nd place overall. Watch the performance here:
